Description
Mount Mitchell State Park is located in the Black Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina and features camping and hiking trails. At 6,684 feet,Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east on the East Coast.
Easy trails at the summit explore the Fraser fir forest, while a vast network of challenging trails—including the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail—extend into adjacent wilderness areas and lead to backpacking opportunities within Pisgah National Forest.

Mount Mitchell State Park and trails of the Pisgah National Forest make up over twenty trails of the Black Mountains—over ten are on Mount Mitchell.
22.9 miles of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail goes through the Black Mountains. The Mountains-to-Sea Trail stretches 1,175 miles from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks. 725 miles of the route are on trail with connecting backroads and an optional paddle route.
Flora and Fauna
A Fraser fir forest can be found near the summit of Mount Mitchell.
Black bears are known to forage around camping areas on Mount Mitchell.
