Description
LeConte Lodge is the highest guest lodge in the eastern United States. LeConte Lodge is accessible only by hiking and is the only place in the Smoky Mountains where a visitor can sleep overnight in a permanent structure.
LeConte Lodge is situated on an open glade just below the summit of Mount LeConte at an elevation of about 6,400 feet. There are no roads that lead to the Lodge.
Recreation
LeConte Lodge is accessible only via hiking trails. There are five hiking trails that lead to LeConte Lodge ranging in length from 5.0 miles up to 9.1 miles.
Amenities
Southern Appalachian inspired meals are served in a communal dining hall with family style suppers. Sack lunches are also available for purchase.
Lodge guest rooms have private bedrooms with a shared common living area. Cabins feature a single shared room.
Each room includes:
- Kerosene lanterns for light
- Propane heaters for heat
- Wash basin and bucket for sponge baths (there are no showers)
- Linens (sheets, blankets, pillows, and pillowcases)
- Table and chair
- Mirror
- Hooks for backpacks
- Covered porches with rocking chairs
Restroom outhouse with flush toilets are available to paying overnight guests. There is no electricity in the restroom facilities.
A primitive pit privy is available for day hikers 24/7 year-round.
Need to Know
LeConte Lodge requires advance reservations. Bookings fill up quickly.
There is no electricity for guests.
Campfires are prohibited.
Be sure to catch sunset from Cliff Tops—a short hike from the lodge.
Fees and Passes
Advance reservations are required to stay at the lodge. The lodge is usually open from mid-March through mid-November.
