Description
Mount Jefferson State Natural Area has around five miles of hiking trails and drive-up overlooks.
Mount Jefferson was once known as Panther Mountain due to a local legend of a panther eating children on the mountain. The mountain is now known as Mount Jefferson, named after President Thomas Jefferson and his father Peter, who owned property nearby.
Mount Jefferson State Natural Area hosts an annual downhill skateboarding event on the mountain road.
Flora and Fauna
The Dutchman’s pipevine plant and swallowtail butterflies are native to Mount Jefferson State Natural Area.
Fees and Passes
There are no fees required to access Mount Jefferson State Natural Area for day use. Fees are charged for certain event permits and facility reservations.
